Public works projects face scrutiny in Paranaguá and Maringá

In Paranaguá, a new agreement has been signed to revitalize Avenida Senador Atílio Fontana at a cost of R$ 35 million. The project will utilize concrete to accommodate heavy truck traffic and include a bridge over the Ribeirão River, along with drainage, earthmoving, and signaling. This follows a previous failed attempt under former Mayor Marcelo Roque, where a R$ 63 million contract for asphalt was terminated in June 2024 due to delays and insufficient funding.

In Maringá, the municipal government has sought judicial authorization to remove the remaining sections of a rubberized track at Parque do Ingá. The track, inaugurated in 2021, has suffered repeated structural failures and erosion due to heavy rains since 2022. The removal is necessary because the remaining segments are considered evidence in a civil public action led by the Public Ministry of Paraná, which seeks reimbursement for public funds following the track's structural flaws.
