Brazilian Public Ministry institutional activities and legal

The Public Ministry branches in Paraná and Rio Grande do Norte have initiated various institutional projects and investigations. In Paraná, the Ministério Público do Paraná (MPPR) inaugurated a new headquarters in Francisco Beltrão and launched the ‘MP em Movimento’ project to improve access to services for municipal administrations and vulnerable populations.

In Rio Grande do Norte, the Ministério Público do Rio Grande do Norte (MPRN) established the ‘Rede Sisan Potiguar’ to address food security and hunger. The MPRN is also investigating suspected fraud in a public contest for the State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration and has opened a civil inquiry regarding infrastructure issues, such as mold and sewage infiltration, at the Giselda Trigueiro Hospital’s ICU in Natal.

In Paraná, legal and infrastructure developments have emerged in Paranaguá and Maringá. A R$ 35 million agreement was signed to revitalize Avenida Senador Atílio Fontana in Paranaguá, following a previous failed R$ 63 million asphalt contract. Meanwhile, in Maringá, the municipal government is seeking judicial authorization to remove sections of a rubberized track at Parque do Ingá. These segments are being held as evidence in a civil public action led by the MPPR, which is seeking reimbursement for public funds following structural failures of the track.
