Publix expands recall of GreenWise frozen berries over E. coli outbreak

Publix has recalled all lots of its GreenWise Organic frozen whole blueberries and whole mixed berries sold in eight states—Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia—after an outbreak of Shiga‑toxin‑producing E. coli O145:H28 was linked to the products. The outbreak has sickened 12 people, four of whom were hospitalized, primarily in Florida and Georgia.

The recall, which expands an earlier lot‑specific recall announced on July 3, removes the 10‑ounce and 48‑ounce packages of both blueberries and mixed berries from store shelves. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating, and the FDA has placed an import alert on the Chilean supplier Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. to detain future shipments of frozen blueberries.

Consumers are advised to discard the recalled products or return them to any Publix store for a full refund. The products are no longer available for purchase.
