Puebla invests 1 billion pesos in airport and local commerce
The state of Puebla is implementing a comprehensive strategy to boost tourism and economic development through infrastructure improvements, increased connectivity, and support for local producers. Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier announced an investment exceeding 1 billion pesos to modernize the Hermanos Serdán International Airport. This project aims to increase annual passenger capacity from 1.4 million to 2.8 million, featuring a new 14,623-square-meter terminal and expanded flight destinations, including new direct routes to Chicago.
To support local commerce, the Secretariat of Economic Development and Labor (SEDETRA) organized a business meeting for over 50 local entrepreneurs. These producers, ranging from food and beverage makers to artisans, are seeking to integrate into formal distribution chains under the ‘Puebla Cinco de Mayo’ brand, particularly within the historic center’s commercial corridors.
The state's tourism strategy also emphasizes security, urban beautification, and inter-state collaboration, such as promoting the International Paste Festival in Hidalgo to encourage regional travel.
