New routes include a direct flight to Chicago and connections to Acapulco and Puerto Escondido expected in December, alongside planned routes to Los Angeles and Houston. These developments are part of a broader strategy to strengthen Puebla’s tourism sector in preparation for hosting Tianguis Turístico 2027.

Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier has reinforced this strategy by linking airport modernization with broader economic development. To complement the increased tourism, the Secretariat of Economic Development and Labor (SEDETRA) is working to integrate local producers—including artisans and food and beverage makers—into formal distribution chains under the ‘Puebla Cinco de Mayo’ brand. This integrated approach aims to bolster local commerce within the historic center’s commercial corridors alongside the airport’s expansion.
