Mexico public transport buses face rising theft and violence incidents

In Puebla, a group of six carteristas has been targeting the RUTA A‑6 bus line. Drivers have reported threats from the thieves, who board the vehicle, steal passengers' phones and wallets, and flee at high speed. Video circulated on social media shows a driver warning riders that he is being threatened and urging them to protect their belongings.

In Cuernavaca, Morelos, a heated altercation on a Ruta 4 bus was captured on video. A female passenger slapped the driver, who then retaliated with punches and pushed her off the bus. Local transport authorities have summoned the driver and the bus operator for investigation and warned that such violence will not be tolerated.

Both incidents have prompted calls for stronger security measures on public buses, including the installation of panic buttons, on‑board cameras, and increased police presence.
