Puebla economic activity: Volkswagen wage vote and 20 billion peso investment projections

In Puebla, workers at the Volkswagen plant have begun voting in a consultation regarding a proposed salary agreement. The voting process started in the early morning hours, with employees from the third shift participating as early as 4:30 a.m., followed by the first shift.

Separately, the state of Puebla is projecting up to 20 billion pesos in investments for the Polo de Desarrollo para el Bienestar (Development Pole for Well-being) in San José Chiapa before the end of 2026. Víctor Gabriel Chedraui, head of the Secretariat of Economic Development and Labor, stated that the realization of these investments depends on the establishment of a trust to regulate operations, which is expected by the first week of October. Interested companies reportedly belong to the automotive and food sectors.

Additionally, trusts for the Circular Economy Park, the Airport District, and the Gran Valle Puebla 5 de Mayo are expected to be ready by the start of the final quarter of the year to facilitate further industrial projects.
