Puebla education authorities find no formal complaints against Ignacio Zaragoza Academy

The Puebla Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) has reported that there are currently no formal complaints from students against the Academia Militarizada Ignacio Zaragoza (AMIZ) regarding physical mistreatment or irregular acts. This statement follows recent social media reports and testimonies from former students alleging physical punishment as a disciplinary measure.

Manuel Viveros Narciso, head of the SEP, stated that the Legal, Transparency, and Private Schools departments reviewed all records and found no official filings. The investigation was prompted by instructions from Governor Alejandro Armenta to verify the veracity of circulating claims.

In addition to investigating allegations of mistreatment, authorities are reviewing the institution's academic models and administrative compliance. This follows federal guidelines prohibiting educational institutions from using military discipline as an operational modality. While preschool, primary, and secondary levels are reportedly compliant, the high school level is under scrutiny for its militarized character. The SEP expects to issue a final determination regarding the academy's future this Friday, following the conclusion of surveillance visits.
