Puebla Firefighters Deploy to Canada for Wildfire Assistance

Puebla's forest‑fire brigades, credited with cutting the area burned from 13,364 hectares in 2025 to about 6,000 hectares in 2026, were invited by Canada’s Inter‑Agency Fire Centre to help combat wildfires in British Columbia. The reduction was achieved through state‑provided technology, specialized vehicles, tools and continuous training overseen by Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier.

The Canadian request, channeled through the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), resulted in the commissioning of Idalitl Palomares García and Jerónimo Espinosa López. The two brigadiers, part of a six‑person team, underwent a rigorous selection process and will operate from 3 August to 4 September, bringing expertise in equipment handling, fire‑behavior analysis, incident‑command systems, satellite positioning and high‑performance physical conditioning. Their participation aims to exchange knowledge and bolster forest protection efforts in both Puebla and the Canadian provinces.
