Puebla security concerns rise during Alejandro Armenta's administration

As the administration of Alejandro Armenta in Puebla approaches its 600th day, the state faces significant security challenges and rising public concern. According to data from INEGI, 80 percent of citizens in Puebla report feeling insecure due to an increase in robberies, assaults, and homicides.

Violent incidents have marked this period, including armed attacks at establishments such as Lacoss, which resulted in seven deaths, and shootings in the Angelópolis area. Data from the Puebla Prosecutor's Office indicates that over 1,000 robberies in public transportation occurred between January and July 2026 alone.

While the Secretary of Public Security, Francisco Sánchez González, maintains that security is a priority for the administration, opposition legislators and citizens have questioned the effectiveness of current state strategies in addressing the wave of violence affecting urban areas and highways.
