Puebla security crisis and oversight

In late July 2026 the Puebla state government faced intensified scrutiny after seven municipal mayors were investigated for suspected links to organized crime, and the governor’s office classified flight logs, fuel records and maintenance details of the official aircraft for five years. The administration also announced an expansion of its housing program for security personnel, raising eligible homes from 45,000 to up to 70,000, and continued infrastructure work such as the southern arc of the Periférico Ecológico.

The violence persisted into early August. On 5 August, two brothers (16 and 22) were found dead with multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle in San Salvador Huixcolotla, and a separate highway robbery near Huauchinango resulted in the theft of two dogs. These incidents highlighted ongoing homicides across Puebla municipalities despite the claimed security measures. Deputies Nay Salvatori and Grace Palomares drew national attention for alleged discriminatory remarks, while Governor Alejandro Armenta remained silent.

That same day, crane‑service transporters blocked a major thoroughfare in Puebla’s capital, protesting alleged irregularities in fines imposed on drivers and demanding dialogue with the government. The blockade added further pressure on the governor’s office as it pursued broader protective and logistical initiatives amid the continuing security crisis.
