Puebla Mayor Pepe Chedraui announces 440 million peso infrastructure plan

Puebla Mayor Pepe Chedraui has announced a 440 million peso financing plan through Banorte to accelerate urban mobility and infrastructure projects. The credit aims to advance 2027 budget allocations to 2026, targeting the rehabilitation of over 4,500 streets, with a long-term goal of reaching up to 20,000 streets through combined state support and potential material donations from Pemex.

While the administration claims this will increase paving coverage by 700% compared to previous terms, critics have raised concerns regarding the technical viability and financial planning of the project. Some observers suggest the urgency to settle the debt by July 2027 may be influenced by the upcoming 2027 electoral cycle.

In related social and health initiatives, the municipal government has implemented several programs: the DIF Puebla Capital distributed 60 hearing and orthopedic devices to improve local mobility, and the government provided 2 million pesos in support for traditional community projects to indigenous groups. Additionally, the '5 de Mayo' Itinerant Surgical Hospital has successfully completed 1,000 free cataract and pterygium surgeries over a three-month period to improve visual health in various municipalities.
