Puebla State Congress approves constitutional reforms

The Congress of the State of Puebla has approved several reforms to both the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States and the State Constitution of Puebla. Pável Gaspar Ramírez, president of the Board of Government and Political Coordination, detailed these changes during the second activity report of the LXII Legislature.

Key federal constitutional reforms approved include modifications regarding sovereignty, extortion, feminicide, and the ratification of higher ranks within the National Guard. The legislature also addressed fiscal measures, such as setting limits on pensions and retirements for public entities, decentralized organisms, and public companies, as well as limiting the annual budget of the Congress to a maximum of 0.70% of the State Expenditure Budget.

State-level reforms focus on protecting children and adolescents from violence, ensuring access to public information, and protecting personal data. Additional measures include incorporating environmental progressivity and climate change adaptation, prohibiting direct nepotism in candidacies, and harmonizing political representation through vertical and horizontal parity at the municipal level.
