Argentina and U.S. negotiate $7 billion energy and infrastructure deal

Argentina and the United States are advancing a major financing agreement estimated at approximately $7 billion for next year. The deal, expected to be announced in New York, focuses on infrastructure, energy, and critical minerals to strengthen supply chains.

A central component of this agreement is the Argentina LNG project, a massive initiative involving YPF in partnership with Italy’s Eni and the UAE’s XRG. The project, which has an estimated total investment of $51 billion, aims to produce and export liquefied natural gas from the Vaca Muerta region. To support this, the project includes the installation of two floating liquefaction units off the coast of Río Negro and the construction of a 527-kilometer gas pipeline starting from Neuquén.

The U.S. Export-Import Bank (Exim Bank) is expected to provide approximately $6 billion in financing for the LNG project. The broader agreement also involves other financial instruments from U.S. agencies like the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to facilitate energy and mineral exports from Argentina.
