Mazatlán hosts México Canta semifinals amid strong tourism and security discussions
The music competition ‘México Canta por la Paz y Contra las Adicciones 2026’ held its second semifinal at the Teatro Ángela Peralta in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. Following a live vote from over 390,000 people, three finalists were selected to advance to the grand final at the Auditorio Nacional on September 13: Bryan Soto, Isabel Piñeyro ‘La Malixita’, and Luna López.
The event featured special performances by La Arrolladora Banda El Limón and Kakalo. Sinaloa Governor Graciela Domínguez Nava attended the gala, which aims to promote peace and provide a platform for young regional Mexican music artists aged 18 to 29.
Separately, Mazatlán continues to see significant tourism activity. The summer season in Sinaloa generated over 7.3 billion pesos, with Mazatlán accounting for 6.5 billion pesos. The port also reports strong cruise ship traffic, having received 89 vessels and over 330,000 visitors in the first eight months of 2026. In September, nine cruise arrivals are scheduled, including ships from Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line.
In response to increased violence in Mazatlán during August, Governor Domínguez Nava and interim Mayor Minerva Osuna Zavala are discussing a coordinated pacification strategy involving municipal and federal authorities.
