Puerto Quequén launches historic cargo for Vaca Muerta oil project

On 26 May, the Argentine port of Puerto Quequén completed a landmark loading operation for the Vaca Muerta Oil Sur (VMOS) project. Six anchors weighing about 43 tons each and six heavy‑duty chains of roughly 73 tons and 400 metres were placed on the vessel MV Skandi Hera for transport to the future offshore terminal at Punta Colorada in Río Negro.

The shipment follows earlier delivery of 12 anchors and 12 chains by the ship BBC Odesa and marks the first time the grain‑focused port is handling large‑scale energy equipment. Port authority president Mariano Carrillo called the day “historic”, noting that the move diversifies the port’s profile, creates local jobs and strengthens Argentina’s capacity to export oil from the Vaca Muerta basin. YPF leads the logistical effort, positioning Puerto Quequén as a key node in the national energy export chain.
