Caribbean sees scattered showers and extreme heat as tropical wave 28 moves west

A weak tropical wave identified as wave 28 is moving westward across the Caribbean region. In Venezuela the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology reports rain and thunderstorms in Falcón, Yaracuy, Carabobo, Aragua and the Greater Caracas area, with the system expected to keep the western zones wet for the coming days.

The Dominican Republic’s meteorological service also notes the same wave increasing humidity, bringing isolated showers and occasional thunderstorms to Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, Monseñor Nouel, San José de Ocoa, San Juan, Azua, Elías Piña, Dajabón and parts of the capital, while temperatures remain high at 33‑35 °C. In Puerto Rico a weak wave is passing south of the island, producing only brief rain showers amid dry, dusty air from Saharan dust, with temperatures near 88 °F and heightened fire‑risk.

Across the Yucatán Peninsula and Quintana Roo, temperatures climb to 35‑39 °C and scattered showers are expected, while Saharan dust continues to suppress larger convective storms. Panama experiences unsettled weather with scattered clouds, isolated showers and temperatures between 22‑32 °C. A nearby depression (tropical depression 2) is being monitored but poses no immediate threat to any of the listed countries.
