Puerto Rico Governor Jenniffer González challenges agency leaders over drought response and internal management

Governor Jenniffer González of Puerto Rico publicly criticized the board of the Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AAA) after its president, Héctor Del Río, resigned. She said the board met too infrequently during the ongoing drought, noting that a weekly drought committee has been active since early June and that a July 17 meeting discussed possible water interruptions at the Carraízo reservoir. González added that a new board member will be appointed following the legal selection process.

At the same time, Rafael Coca Vázquez, newly appointed director of the Department of Gobernación y Desarrollo Político, is facing internal complaints from staff. Employees allege that his private secretary is issuing administrative reports beyond her authority and that decision‑making within the department lacks transparency. The staff are demanding clarification of roles and proper procedural safeguards.
