Puerto Rico Superacueducto Repairs Completed, Water Service Restored

The Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AAA) finished repairs on the Superacueducto after detecting a major break on June 10 and identifying two additional ruptures, bringing the total to three. The repairs, which cost over half a million dollars, involved pouring concrete with an accelerator and allowing it to cure overnight to secure the 72‑inch transmission line in Bayamón.

AAA executive Luis R. González Delgado said the system was reopened in a controlled, gradual manner to avoid sudden pressure changes. He estimated that about 50 % of the roughly 100,000 customers affected—including residents of San Juan, Bayamón, Guaynabo, Gurabo, Isla Verde, Caguas, Juncos and Aguas Buenas—will have water restored within the next 24 hours, roughly 60,000 households. The agency will continue coordinated mitigation efforts with municipal governments, the National Guard and other agencies until full stabilization is achieved.
