Global updates on traffic regulations and urban infrastructure

Various regions are implementing new traffic regulations, infrastructure improvements, and safety measures to enhance urban mobility and public safety.

In Spain, the Real Decreto 518/2026 introduces significant changes effective October 1, 2026. These include mandatory pedestrian priority in single-platform zones, new restrictions near schools and hospitals, and mandatory protective gear for motorcyclists, such as gloves and closed footwear. Additionally, cyclists in Seville may now choose to use the roadway even where bike lanes exist.

In Chile, legislative proposals aim to regulate high-speed electric scooters by requiring licenses, age limits, and insurance. Meanwhile, roadwork is underway on Route L-11 between Linares and Colbún to improve safety and connectivity.

Other regional updates include the inauguration of a new security sub-delegation in Caleta San Pedro, Chile, and various municipal infrastructure projects in Spain, such as sanitation and paving works in Arcos de la Frontera and Utrera. In Mexico, authorities in Querétaro and Ciudad Victoria are increasing enforcement against traffic violations and unauthorized heavy transport to manage rising vehicle volumes.
