Puglia approves amnesty for regional vehicle tax debts

The Puglia regional council approved a draft law that offers taxpayers a simplified settlement for outstanding regional vehicle taxes accrued between 2000 and 2023. Under the measure, penalties and interest are cancelled and the debt can be paid in up to 54 bimonthly installments starting in 2027.

Assessor for Budget and Personnel Sebastiano Leo said the scheme aims to help citizens regularise their positions while boosting the region’s revenue collection. The law also creates a dedicated fund to finance digitalisation, technological innovation and staff training for the regional tax authority, supporting broader anti‑evasion efforts and aligning with national legislation and the EU‑backed recovery plan.

The approval is intended to improve fiscal equity, support families and businesses in difficulty, and increase resources for health, welfare and public services.
