Puglia mussel farmers to receive adjusted FEAMPA aid
The Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests (MASAF) has accepted a proposal from the Puglia Region to modify the calculation criteria for FEAMPA aid. This change aims to support mussel farming businesses that suffered significant production losses due to exceptional water temperatures.
Previously, the standard methodology used 2025 production levels as a reference point for determining compensation. However, because 2024 environmental events had already severely impacted production capacity, using 2025 data would have unfairly penalized the most affected companies. Under the new rule, businesses can use their 2023 commercialized production as the reference parameter to determine compensation for unforeseen environmental, climatic, or public health events.
The aid is intended to compensate for lost profits and increased production costs, specifically addressing market disruptions and high fuel prices.
