Puglia Governor Decaro Orders Credit‑Card Recall and Cuts Regional Expenditure

Regional President Antonio Decaro announced a series of cost‑saving measures for the Apulian administration. All corporate credit cards issued to regional employees have been withdrawn and future payments must be made by traceable bank transfers. Travel expenses will require prior authorisation and service‑car fuel cards will be logged in a digital register. Decaro also requested the Regional Council to block the catering contract for the regional headquarters on Via Gentile and to halt the appointment of new agency board members, a spend projected at about €200,000 per year. He said the step is part of a broader plan to trim €35 million from political costs and to set an example after a recent IRPEF increase. In a video posted on social media he stressed, “If institutions ask citizens for sacrifices, they must be the first to set a good example.” The opposition party Fratelli d’Italia called for an investigation into past mismanagement of agency funds.

The measures target administrative spending, aiming to improve fiscal discipline and restore public confidence in the region’s financial management.
