Pulau Doi, Maluku Utara Shaken by Magnitude 6.2 Earthquake
On Friday, 3 July 2026 at 09:31 WIB, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off Pulau Doi in the Halmahera region of North Maluku, Indonesia. The BMKG located the epicenter about 58 km west‑south‑west of the island at a depth of roughly 100 km (coordinates 1.93° N, 127.39° E).
BMKG officials said the quake showed an oblique‑thrust fault mechanism caused by deformation within the Maluku Sea plate and confirmed it was not capable of generating a tsunami. No immediate reports of damage or casualties were received, and coastal residents were advised to stay calm and follow official updates.
