Pumas faces crisis amid poor results and leadership meetings

Pumas is facing a period of instability in the Apertura 2026 tournament, marked by a recent 3-2 defeat against Atlético San Luis and a struggle to maintain consistent results. The team currently sits in 12th place in the general standings with 12 points from 27 possible.

During a recent training session, head coach Esteban Solari held an intense private meeting with team leaders Keylor Navas and Nathan Silva. The discussion occurred amidst a difficult run for the club, which has seen Solari win only three of his last 12 matches across Liga MX and the Leagues Cup. The coach has also struggled with squad consistency, failing to repeat a starting lineup across nine matchdays due to injuries, suspensions, and international breaks.

In the match against Atlético San Luis, goalkeeper Keylor Navas was central to the loss. Navas committed a significant error on a low shot from David Rodríguez that allowed a goal, and later failed to save a penalty from Sebastien Salles. Despite a goal from Rodrigo López, Pumas was unable to secure a draw, leaving them seven points behind the league leader, Toluca.
