Pumas performance crisis in Liga MX

Pumas is experiencing a period of instability and a performance crisis during the Apertura 2026 tournament. Following a 3-2 defeat against Atlético San Luis, the team has struggled to maintain consistency, securing only one victory in its last ten matches across Liga MX and the Leagues Cup.

Head coach Esteban Solari has held private meetings with team leaders Keylor Navas and Nathan Silva to address the club’s difficulties. Solari has accepted responsibility for the squad’s defensive deficiencies, noting a need for increased resilience. The team’s struggles have been compounded by difficulties in maintaining a consistent starting lineup due to injuries, suspensions, and international breaks.

Goalkeeper Keylor Navas has faced significant scrutiny following errors in the match against San Luis that contributed to the loss. While Navas was booed by fans during the game, his wife, Andrea Salas, offered public support via social media. Pumas currently sits in 12th place in the general standings, facing a difficult remaining schedule against teams such as Cruz Azul, Tigres, América, and Monterrey.
