Pumas to honor Hugo Sánchez at Estadio Olímpico Universitario

Club Universidad Nacional (Pumas) will host a tribute for Hugo Sánchez at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The ceremony coincides with the club's match against Tigres, the same team Sánchez faced during his professional debut 50 years prior.

Sánchez made his first-division debut on October 23, 1976, at age 18, entering the match in the 25th minute as a substitute for Geraldo Cándido. During his tenure with Pumas, he helped the club secure league titles in the 1976-77 and 1980-81 seasons.

The tribute marks a half-century since the beginning of a career that saw Sánchez become a legendary figure in both Mexican and Spanish football, notably earning five Pichichi trophies during his time with Real Madrid.
