Pump.fun expands to tokenized stocks on Solana

Solana-based memecoin launchpad Pump.fun has introduced a ‘Custom Pairs’ feature, allowing users to launch new tokens paired with tokenized stocks, major cryptocurrencies, and metals. This move expands the platform's scope into the real-world asset (RWA) market, moving beyond traditional pairings like SOL or stablecoins.

Through collaborations with Sunrise and xStocks, the platform supports 93 asset pairs. This includes 20 new stock tokens issued by Backpack Securities, covering companies such as Boeing, Alibaba, Costco, Dell, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Lockheed Martin, Reddit, Rivian, Shopify, and UPS. These tokens are reportedly redeemable 1:1 for underlying shares.

To incentivize the ecosystem, Pump.fun plans to allocate 50% of the revenue generated from Custom Pairs to a programmatic buyback and burn contract for its native PUMP token. While the integration aims to bridge memecoin speculation with traditional equity markets, some analysts warn that the model's sustainability depends heavily on maintaining high trading volumes.
