Pune faces a series of infrastructure failures amid heavy rain

In Pune, Maharashtra, a residential society’s compound wall collapsed in the Katraj area early on July 5 after intense rainfall, damaging 14 vehicles but causing no injuries, fire‑brigade officials said.

The following day, a landslide struck a home in the remote village of Patan in Pune’s Mawal taluka, trapping a family under debris. The National Disaster Response Force deployed a 30‑member team to rescue the occupants; no casualties have been confirmed yet.

Separately, a water‑pipeline pressure test in Talegaon Dabhade caused a newly‑asphalted road to crack open, sending a fountain of water onto the street. An investigation blamed a faulty joint by the contractor, and municipal chief officer Girish Dapekar pledged action against the responsible party.
