Pune Police arrest suspect for sexual assault of 12-year-old girl

Pune Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in Maharashtra. The case was brought to light on September 22 after a doctor, alerted by the victim's mother, suspected assault during a medical examination.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Chilumula Rajnikant stated that police registered a case under Section 74 of the BNS and the POCSO Act. Following a court-ordered medical examination, reports confirmed that the assault had occurred.

The victim reported that the accused's family had threatened her following the incident, which caused a delay in reporting the matter. The suspect, who has a previously registered minor case against him, has been produced before the court. Police have expressed intentions to request a trial in a fast-track court to ensure a swift investigation and maximum punishment.
