Sexual assault investigation in Pune

Overview

Pune police arrested 52-year-old contract sanitation worker Jaisingh Sathe for the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in the Vishrantwadi area. The incident reportedly took place on September 12, but the investigation only began on September 22 after a medical officer notified authorities during a hospital visit.

Police filed charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Subsequent reports indicated that the victim’s family had been threatened by the accused’s family, which caused a delay in reporting the crime.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Chilumula Rajnikant confirmed that medical examinations verified the assault. The suspect, who has a previously registered minor case against him, has been produced before the court. Authorities have expressed intentions to request a trial in a fast-track court to ensure a swift investigation.
