Punjab approves AI CT scanner for multi-disease screening
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has granted in-principle approval to introduce an AI-powered multi-disease screening system in the province. Following a meeting with executives from Alibaba Cloud, the provincial government is planning a pilot project to integrate this technology into public hospitals.
The AI-powered solution utilizes non-contrast CT technology to potentially detect up to 10 different conditions within two minutes. The system is designed to assist healthcare professionals with screening, diagnosis, and treatment planning rather than replacing medical staff.
Key conditions the technology can flag include five types of cancer: pancreatic, liver, gastric, esophageal, and colorectal. Additionally, the scanner can screen for Acute Aortic Syndrome, assess cardiovascular disease risks, evaluate fat and muscle health, detect fatty liver disease, and assist in assessing osteoporosis and bone weakness.
