Punjab CM announces 2026 as year of economic freedom for women

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that 2026 will serve as a year of economic freedom for women in the state. Speaking at the 80th Independence Day celebrations in Ferozepur, Mann highlighted the impact of the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna scheme.

According to the Chief Minister, 74.59 lakh women have registered under the program, with Rs 2,274 crore already transferred as Satkar Raashi to the bank accounts of 65.62 lakh women. He stated that the initiative allows mothers and daughters the freedom to manage their own finances according to their wishes.

In addition to economic empowerment, Mann noted that the state government is focusing on transformative education, healthcare, youth employment, and public safety, while maintaining communal harmony and fighting drug abuse.
