Punjab CM announces crackdown on drugs and gangsters

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced a major crackdown on organized crime, stating that nearly 80% of drugs entering the state from Pakistan have been eliminated. Since January, the government reports that 10 gangsters have been brought back to Punjab from abroad. The administration is now shifting focus to tighten controls on drug supply routes originating from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

Mann criticized opposition parties, including the BJP, Congress, and Akali Dal, accusing them of “vulture politics” by exploiting crime incidents for political gain rather than offering solutions. He specifically challenged the BJP regarding drug seizures at Mundra Port in Gujarat. To combat crime, the government has busted 1,234 gangster modules and registered over 60,000 FIRs against drug traffickers.

In addition to security measures, the Chief Minister highlighted agricultural and infrastructure developments, noting that canal water now reaches 80% of agricultural fields. He also addressed utility issues, stating that prolonged power cuts have ended following the restoration of thermal power units to full capacity.
