Punjab Congress leaders clash over state chief Raja Warring amid calls for his replacement

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring responded to MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa’s remark that the party should not have “compromised” leaders, saying any differences between them would be short‑lived and that the issue would last only a few days. The comment came after a senior‑leadership meeting in Chandigarh where Randhawa urged the party to field bold, decisive leaders ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

A rival faction of the Punjab Congress, led by former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and comprising over 90 sitting and former lawmakers, met with party general secretary Bhupesh Baghel. The group demanded the removal of state unit chief Raja Warring, accusing him of creating divisions. Baghel downplayed the demand, stating no discussion on Warring’s replacement took place, assuring that the party would convey the concerns to the high command and maintain unity.
