Baghel later confirmed that Warring would remain state president, while Channi was named chair of the Congress campaign committee. Subsequent meetings in Mohali and Chandigarh projected unity, but Channi accused the AAP‑run state government of manipulating the Morinda municipal election and announced a legal challenge. The AAP responded with criticism over a recent FBI indictment of a Punjab police officer, adding a law‑and‑order dimension to the dispute. By mid‑July, rebel leaders demanded Warring’s replacement and sought to project Channi as the chief‑ministerial candidate; Baghel downplayed the demand, promising to convey concerns to the high command. On 13 July, Rahul Gandhi was reaffirmed as the sole face of Punjab Congress, with the party rejecting calls to name Channi as CM candidate.
