Punjab Congress leaders dispute Amarinder Singh Warring's leadership ahead of 2027 elections

A faction of Punjab Congress senior leaders, headed by former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, travelled to Delhi to meet the party high command and demand the removal of state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. The group, which includes former deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and other senior MLAs, says Warring’s public statements are harming the party’s grassroots support and that the party cannot win the 2027 state elections under his leadership.

On the same day, the rebels convened a meeting in Mohali, resolved to boycott Warring‑led programmes and to present a formal note to the Congress high command. Participants listed include Rana Gurjeet Singh, Pargat Singh, Razia Sultana, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Gurpreet Singh Kangar and several legislators. They also announced a boycott of AICC in‑charge Bhupesh Baghel’s upcoming meetings. Opposition leader Partap Singh Bajwa, a supporter of Warring, was absent from the rebel gathering but welcomed Baghel at the Mohali airport, indicating internal divisions within the party.

Both camps have shared photographs on social media portraying unity, while the dissenting faction continues to press the high command for a leadership change before the next assembly election.
