Punjab Congress leadership feud intensifies as senior figures skip key meetings

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring was reappointed by the party high command, a decision defended by AICC general secretary Bhupesh Baghel, who said the leadership’s choices are final. Both Warring and Baghel dismissed rumours of a split, insisting the party remains united ahead of the state assembly elections.

Nonetheless, reports of internal discord persisted. Former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and former deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa missed several strategy meetings convened by Baghel during his five‑day Punjab tour. Warring sought to downplay their absence, noting they had informed the committee chair that they were out of town. Other senior leaders, including working presidents Raj Kumar Verka and Sukhwinder Singh Danny, attended briefings, while a few other district presidents were also absent.

The party also issued a show‑cause notice to Congress leader Madan Lal Jalalpur for remarks against the high command. Baghel stressed that the Congress remains the “only option” for Punjab voters and pledged to resolve any internal issues before the elections.
