Punjab farmers continue Chandigarh border protest
Farmers from Punjab have entered the third day of a week-long sit-in at the Chandigarh border, organized by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha. The protesters report receiving no response or statement from the government regarding their long-standing demands.
A coalition of 32 farmer organizations has decided to intensify their agitation. Key demands include a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) on 22 crops, the implementation of a proper crop insurance scheme, and loan waivers for farmers.
Additionally, leaders are calling for the Punjab government to convene a special session of the state Assembly to seek the cancellation of decades-old water agreements. The unions also expressed readiness to launch nationwide protests against a proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
