Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann releases funds for women's welfare scheme
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann released a new tranche of financial assistance under the Mukh Mantri Mawan‑Dhiyan Satkar Yojana in Pathankot. The payment will reach 35.5 lakh additional women, raising the total number of beneficiaries in the state to 68.5 lakh.
Under the scheme, women from the general category receive ₹1,000 per month, while women belonging to the Scheduled Caste category receive ₹1,500 per month. Payments are transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer system.
The programme was announced on 8 March 2026, coinciding with International Women’s Day, as part of the Punjab Budget 2026‑27. The state government has earmarked ₹9,300 crore for the initiative, which aims to eventually cover nearly 90 lakh women across Punjab.
