Punjab launches massive financial aid and police help desks for women
The Punjab government has disbursed ₹1,147 crore under the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana, transferring cash directly to the bank accounts of nearly 3.3 million women. Eligible Scheduled‑Caste beneficiaries received ₹4,500 each in three instalments, while other women received ₹3,000 each. Minister Dr Baljit Kaur said the scheme adds a new layer of social security without affecting existing pensions.
In parallel, Punjab Police have established Women Help Desks in all 424 police stations, registering 2.31 lakh complaints concerning crimes against women and children since 2023. The force has deployed 848 women officers (PPMMs) and introduced 93 electric scooters for female personnel to improve outreach. DGP Gaurav Yadav highlighted the desks’ role in making policing more gender‑sensitive and boosting public confidence.
