Punjab meets record 17,281 MW power demand despite plant outages

Punjab met a record power demand of 17,281 MW on September 14, marking the highest demand ever recorded in the state. Despite this surge, Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond stated that no power shortages or related electricity disruptions occurred.

The state’s ability to meet this demand comes despite two units of the Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant in Ropar being non-functional. These units, which have a combined capacity of 150 MW, are currently offline. Minister Sond noted that one unit is expected to be operational by the following morning, with the second unit expected to return to service within a few days.
