Punjab Minister Harjot Singh Bains Launches AI-Driven Cleanliness Drive

Punjab Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced a hybrid cleaning model in Patiala, combining mechanised shrub‑cutters, super‑suction machines, scrubbers and manual waste collection. The four‑step protocol—machine cutting, manual pickup, suction and road washing—is scheduled weekly for every ward, with the goal of making Patiala the cleanest city in the state within a month before the system is rolled out across Punjab.

On the same day Bains launched “Mission Clean Punjab”, a technology‑driven initiative that requires all civic officials to be on the ground daily from 7 am to 8 am. The drive divides each urban local body into 10‑km zones overseen by supervisory officers, uses an AI‑integrated mobile app for real‑time progress tracking, and includes surprise checks by senior officials. The chief minister will monitor the programme, and officials must report daily via video calls and the app, aiming for documented, visible improvements in sanitation throughout Punjab.
