Punjab Police arrest four and seize opium and illegal arms in Amritsar
Amritsar Rural Police have dismantled two drug and arms smuggling modules, resulting in the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics and weaponry.
In one operation, police arrested Malkit Singh and Gurjit Singh, recovering 15 kg of opium and a US-made M16 assault rifle. Investigators noted that the suspects own agricultural land adjacent to the India-Pakistan international border, which is suspected of being used to receive contraband via aerial drops from across the border.
A second operation by a special police cell led to the arrest of Amritpal Singh and Satnam Singh. This action resulted in the recovery of nine modern pistols and 25 live cartridges. Authorities are currently investigating the networks to establish connections with foreign-based smugglers and identify further links in the supply chain.
