Punjab Police dismantle cross-border heroin and arms smuggling network
Law enforcement agencies in India have conducted several major operations targeting narcotics and illegal arms trafficking. In Punjab, Faridkot Police dismantled a cross-border smuggling network, arresting four individuals and seizing 47.3 kg of heroin, three pistols, three magazines, 15 cartridges, and two vehicles. Preliminary investigations suggest the group is linked to a wider network facilitating the movement of drugs and weapons across the international border.
In Amritsar, Counter Intelligence units also disrupted a narcotics module, recovering 10 kg of heroin and apprehending key operatives linked to foreign-based smugglers. These efforts are supported by technological advancements, including the deployment of anti-drone systems like the ‘Baaj Akh’ and ‘Drone Sense D200 Pro’ to intercept aerial smuggling attempts.
In northeastern India, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Arunachal Pradesh Police seized approximately 325.5 kg of cannabis in the West Kameng district, resulting in one arrest. Authorities noted that the region's difficult terrain has been exploited for the illicit cultivation of opium and cannabis. Additionally, security forces continue to monitor movement near the Golden Triangle to prevent the transit of narcotics through strategic border states.
