Punjab Police conduct massive raids against gangster networks
Punjab Police have intensified their ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign to dismantle organized criminal networks across the state. In recent coordinated operations involving the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), hundreds of raids were conducted, resulting in the arrest of hundreds of individuals and the recovery of several weapons.
As part of the ongoing crackdown, police reported arresting 221 people during 569 raids on one day, and 226 people during 506 raids on another. These operations have led to the apprehension of numerous proclaimed offenders. Since the campaign's launch in January 2026, the total number of arrests related to gangster networks has exceeded 79,000.
Parallel to the anti-gangster efforts, the state is also conducting a sustained anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’. Recent enforcement actions under this initiative resulted in the arrest of 123 alleged drug smugglers and the seizure of heroin, poppy husk, and various intoxicants. Authorities are also focusing on rehabilitation, encouraging individuals struggling with drug dependence to seek treatment.
