Punjab Police bust arms and drug smuggling networks

Punjab Police has dismantled multiple illegal arms and narcotics smuggling networks through operations led by the Counter Intelligence Amritsar and the Amritsar Commissionerate Police.

In one major operation, authorities arrested two individuals, identified as Gurpreet Singh and another person from Havaliyan village in Tarn Taran. Officers recovered 10 modern pistols (including nine 9mm and one .30 bore), magazines, and 10 rounds of ammunition. Investigations suggest the suspects were working under the direction of handlers based abroad, receiving weapon shipments via drones near the India-Pakistan border to supply various parties within Punjab.

In a separate crackdown, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police arrested five accused individuals, seizing nine illegal pistols and 6.31 kilograms of heroin. Police stated that these suspects were also allegedly connected to foreign-based handlers, receiving illegal shipments to distribute within the state.

Authorities have registered multiple FIRs under the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Ongoing investigations aim to identify further accomplices and expose the full extent of the cross-border smuggling modules.
