Amritsar Police thwart terror plot with IED seizure

Amritsar Rural Police in Punjab have thwarted a suspected terrorist plot targeting police establishments. During a patrol on the night of August 15-16, an Assistant Sub-Inspector discovered a suspicious black package wrapped in wax within the jurisdiction of the Gaggomahal police post.

The package contained an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing 690 grams, an electronic detonator, a battery, a timer, and an iron box. A bomb disposal squad was called to the scene and successfully defused and destroyed the explosive material.

Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav and Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal confirmed that the recovery prevented a potential threat to public safety. An FIR has been registered at the Ramdas police station under the Explosive Substances Act, and investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved in the conspiracy.
