India law enforcement conducts major crackdowns on cybercrime and organized gangs
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two individuals, Himanshu Prasad and Unis Biswas, in connection with a ₹11.42 crore ‘digital arrest’ scam. Operating under Operation Chakra-VI, the agency conducted searches at 22 locations across 10 states. The scam involved criminals impersonating police and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) officials to coerce a victim into transferring funds over three months. Investigators found the accused used bank accounts, including one belonging to Hexaquest Global Private Limited, and APK files to siphon money.
In Punjab, law enforcement has intensified a massive crackdown on organized crime. The Punjab Police, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force, has conducted hundreds of raids, resulting in 246 arrests in a single operation and bringing the campaign's total to over 73,000 arrests. Additionally, the state is targeting drug trafficking, with authorities reporting the seizure of properties worth ₹366 crore and the busting of 1,234 gangster modules.
Separate criminal incidents were reported in Delhi, including the arrest of two sisters for robbing a delivery boy by using chili powder, and the apprehension of three men following a shooting in East Delhi. In Ferozepur, a Counter-Intelligence Inspector was arrested after being found in possession of 3.35 kg of heroin and several firearms.
