Punjab Police secures first extradition from Moldova
The Punjab Police has secured its first-ever extradition from Europe, bringing notorious fugitive Amritpal Singh, also known as Amrit Dalam, back to India from the Republic of Moldova. Singh, a key operative of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, was detained in Moldova while allegedly attempting to cross the border into Ukraine. His extradition follows legal proceedings in Chisinau, where his appeals were ultimately rejected.
In a separate development, the Punjab Police Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) took Karamveer Singh into custody at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Singh, an associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was deported from Canada. He is accused of providing logistical support and hideouts to Anmol Bishnoi in the United States and is wanted in connection with multiple criminal cases in Mohali.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and other state officials have highlighted these operations as part of a broader crackdown on organized crime and drug trafficking. The state’s Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) has reportedly facilitated the deportation or extradition of 10 fugitives within seven months.
